April Drabble - Batter
by Shannon McKinnon
Ben watched his grandmother excitedly. His eighth
birthday was tomorrow, and she was baking him a
chocolate cake.
As his grandmother slipped the cake into the oven, Ben
dipped his finger into the batter left in the bowl and
licked it.
"Benton."
Ben froze at the sound of the stern voice.
"That cake batter has no nutritional value whatsoever,
and it is not healthy at all."
Ben looked at her guiltily.
"Besides, you're doing it wrong."
Picking up one of the beaters from the mixer, Martha
dipped it in the batter and handed it to Ben with a
solemn wink.
